Meet Phil Sykes...

With 23 years’ experience, Phil has an abundance of knowledge and expertise to offer the golfing community. Over his career he has coached many different students from all walks of life:

Phil has run and owned many golf retail operations over the last 14 years and has successfully combined his managerial role with his love of coaching.

He started his career at Bedale Golf Club in North Yorkshire. It was here that he gained the tools necessary to become a successful golf professional and coach.

Phil then moved to Royal Guernsey Golf Club in the Channel Islands. During his time here he became a fully-qualified member of the Professional Golfers’ Association and fell in love with the beautiful Island of Guernsey.

Following Guernsey, Phil's career flourished with a move to Norway where he encountered a massive golfing boom and took his first steps towards creating a golf academy. This involved quickly developing his techniques to meet with the high demands of a new golfing public.

Phil then brought his new-found knowledge back to Guernsey. He also established his first retail outlet and played a key role in bringing La Grande Mare Golf Club to fruition as their first Head Professional.

His previous club in Norway then invited Phil back to establish new business areas. The club's academy flourished, Phil got involved with "Learn to golf in one day" programmes and he became the Senior Corporate Coach to numerous clients.

Phil was then asked to bring Knole Park Golf Club, which is one of Kent's premier golfing venues, into the 21st century. His mission was successful and Phil's final farewell to the club saw the introduction of Knole Park Ladies’ Academy.

After eight years at Knole, Phil felt he had taken the club as far as he could and returned to his adopted home of Guernsey. He is now establishing Sykes Golf Academy with one of the Island’s premier hotels, St. Pierre Park. This is an exciting new venture and Phil is looking forward to sharing his expertise with the island’s enthusiasts.

Phil has Advanced P.G.A. Golf Professional status. He is also a P.G.A. Level 3 Coach and has AA Status to train assistants within the profession. Phil is also a Licensed Neuro-Linguistic Programming Practitioner, has passed the NSPCC protection course and holds an up-to-date CRB check for the coaching of children.
